Race Report – Race #6 of the Ottawa-Gatineau Karting Championship

It’s over! The final race of the 2013 Ottawa-Gatineau Karting Championship (OGKC) was held on Sunday, September 8th at Le Circuit Quyon (LCQ) with 24 racers showing up to battle on the track one last time before the end of the season! Saturday’s test and tune day was very well attended, with just under 20 racers showing up to hone their kart set-ups in preparation for the last race of the championship. The OGKC is a six (6) race series with competitors from both the Le Circuit Quyon Karting Club (LCQKC) and the National Capital Kart Club (NCKC) vying for the overall championship.

Race day started off with some early-morning rainfall; however, the track dried up just in time for the first practice sessions. The air temperature rose to over 20C for the afternoon feature races. The races were held on the full track configuration in a clockwise direction, incorporating the mid-straight 90 degree right hander which eliminates the bowl portion of the track. The racing was extremely competitive this weekend, with a few off-track excursions occurring throughout the race heats. The official classes raced were: Novice, Briggs Junior, Briggs Senior, and Briggs Masters. The final podium results were as follows:

  • Novice: 1st – Ryan Armstrong; 2nd – Carter Jones; 3rd – Ashton Lake
  • Briggs Junior: 1st – Nicholas Miller-Armstrong; 2nd – Vincent Lamothe
  • Briggs Senior: 1st – Charlotte Lalonde; 2nd – Michael D. Forget; 3rd – Brandon Stephens
  • Briggs Masters: 1st – Graham Wilson; 2nd – Lee Williscroft; 3rd – Eric Giberson

Full race results, as well as the final championship standings, will be posted at http://www.mylaps.com/en shortly!

Congratulations to all of the racers that made the podium, and we would like to say a big thank you to all that participated in making the 2013 Ottawa-Gatineau Karting Championship a huge success! LCQ would also like to say a special thank you to the NCKC, St. John’s Ambulance, Race Director Kelly-Mark Michaud, and the many volunteers for helping out over the course of the year! We look forward to seeing you back at Le Circuit Quyon for the end-of-year enduro which is scheduled for the October 5/6 weekend. Last year, the Briggs Seniors/Masters event was very competitive and had 20+ race teams participate in the 90 minute event. This year, we are hoping for more teams and are considering extending the enduro to 120 minutes. More information will be posted on our website in the near future as additional details become available.
